An authentic performance completed with a fierce lyrical structure.
Our partners directed “Upgrade” — a debut music video by an aspiring alternative-pop artist Jessie Murph. We were called upon to handle a variety of post-production tasks, as well as to enhance live action with the VFX of snow flurry.
The edit incorporated several independent shots fused together to look like one seamless sequence. To simulate the snow effect, we recreated the venue in 3d, tracking each shot to match real life lens. We ran and rendered out the simulations for the snow flurry, which were then composed into the edit. The other part of our team focused on cleaning up the footage from artifacts like tracking markers, exit signs and light leaks. We rotoscoped Jessie to better integrate the snow.
We had three shots to track, varying in focal distance and position within the venue. We animated missing parts of the track and combined the cameras to optimize the simulation workflow.
Autodesk Maya was used to reconstuct the scene in 3d and simulate the effect of snow flurry.
We developed a variety of options for the snow motion and snowflake design. The final effect was merged into the sequence, blending the visual symbolism with the lyrics to create a lasting emotional impact.
The clip premiered on YouTube with 3.000.000+ views marking a successful video debut for the aspiring artist.
